1. Madagascar The Musical Adventure Jr: Peoples Theatre, Joburg Theatre complex, Loveday Street, Braamfontein

Who doesn’t get lost in a live show of fantasy with great music. The Madagascar Musical is based on the DreamWorks production, which follows the adventurous escape of animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo and their unexpected journey. 

Enjoy the musical experience brought on stage by Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo, and the plotting penguins.

2. Nat Geo Kids Weird But True! Exhibition: Sci-bono Discovery Centre, Newtown 

16 June 2019 to 14 January 2020: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm: Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4.30pm 

Kids and adults alike are invited to celebrate everything Weird But True through wild, entertaining, brain-bending, visually stunning photos, graphics, games and installations. 

For the first time on the African continent, this engaging and interactive exhibition gives young minds the opportunity to explore our amazing and very weird world. The exhibition is based on the successful Nat Geo Kids magazine feature and a best-selling series of books. The facts cover a broad range of topics including science, food and pop culture. 

 

3. Christmas In July: Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens: Roodepoort 

25 July 2019 to 4 August 2019 : 6-10 pm 

Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens brings the Enchanted Garden of Lights festival as a celebration of Christmas in July.To experience Christmas as in the Northern Hemisphere, take a stroll through the 500m botanical garden trail lit up with thousands of lights. Christmas statues, an enchanted forest of lights, artificial snow flakes, Christmas music and family fun activities for everyone to enjoy. 

Kids will love having their pictures taken with Father Christmas, a ride in the Christmas Chariot, and a Christmas snow pit and a jumping castle. 

Take advantage of the chilly weather and get into the festive spirit for this once off event.

4. National Quilt Festival:  Heronbridge College, Fourways 

16 – 23.08.2019 

If you love quilting this is the Festival for you! South Africa holds a national quilt festival every two years, in different cities around the country. The venue is Heronbridge College, Fourways, Johannesburg – on the border between the two big cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria. The Festival is ‘by quilters for quilters’ and proudly hosted by the Golden Rand Guild for Quilters and the Jacaranda Quilters  

 

5. The CitySightseeing Joburg and Soweto Bus Tour: The Zone, Next to Hamley Toy Shop, Rosebank 

Monday to Sunday from 9am leaving every ½ hour. 

This tour is a great adventure for tourists and locals alike. You can Hop Off and Hop On at every stop.  It is a hassle-free way to experience the green areas and down town Johannesburg. The Green Bus travels around the Zoo, Zoo Lake and the Military Museum then covers the green areas of Houghton arriving at Constitution Hill a ½ hour later. This is the point where you swap to the Red Bus and travel through the down town areas and on to Gold Reef City [this is the stop where you can transfer to the Soweto Tour] and the Apartheid Museum then start your trip back to Rosebank. Easy to book and a wonderful way to see the city. Mums this tour will keep the kids busy for a whole day.  They will love the upper deck open to the sky.
