THE PILANESBERG NATIONAL PARK – BIG 5 SAFARI
If you only have one day and you want to experience the wonder of an African Safari, the Pilanesberg National Park is only 2h30 minutes away. The 550 square kilometre park with 200 kilometres of road, is centered around an extinct volcano and is home to 7000 animals and 360 bird species. Your journey around this malaria free, relatively compact park is sure to yield good sightings of some of the Big 5 [elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo]. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK – THE BIG 5
You have one-day and you really want to see the world-renowned Kruger National Park. It is do-able. The park is just over 4 hours from Johannesburg and you will need to leave at 5am but you will get to spent about 7 hours in one of the world’s last Edens. Kruger National Park is one of the largest Game Reserves in Africa and It is now part of The Great Limpopo Frontier Park. It is about the size of Israel and is home to an estimated 1,500 lion, 12,000 elephant, 2,500 buffalo, 1,000 leopards and 5,000 rhino (black and white). That is just the Big 5!! There are thousands of antelope, birds, hippo, crocodiles, hyena, and so much more.

Pretoria is a short 45-minute drive north of Johannesburg. It is the Administrative Capital of South Africa and boasts three universities. It is known as Jacaranda City because from late September to October the blooms turn the city into a purple/blue picture. Just over half an hour away is the Cullinan Diamond Mine. It is renowned as a source of large, high-quality gem diamonds and is the world’s most important source of very rare blue diamonds.Cullinan earned its place in history with the discovery of the Cullinan diamond in 1905, the largest rough gem diamond ever found at 3,106 carats, which was cut to form the two most important diamonds in the British Crown Jewels.
